Change Initiation:
The old women was a person that played a huge role in my change. Clarisse influenced me through her deep words but the old woman influenced me through her actions. My team and I had been ordered to go and burn the books that were found in her house. During that process, when I tried to save the woman from the burning house, she rebelled, pushing me away, she preferred to burn herself with her books. The books, for her worth dying for. This act of hers' was what made me realize that taking away the access to literature can end the life of one who respects it a lot. Captain Beatty and everyone else including me were extremely surprised at the woman's sacrifice. Her sacrifice for books made me realize what I was missing in my life. I remember the old woman saying, “…we shall this day light such a candle…as I trust shall never be put out.” (Bradbury 64). The woman said that this act of hers' would awaken people, and that was exactly what happened. I opened my eyes and saw what was happening but this time through his own perspective not the governments.
Ignorance for Literature:At the old woman’s place, “Beatty raised his hand in which was concealed the igniter. “We’re due back at the house. Besides, these fanatics always try suicide; the pattern’s familiar.” (Bradbury 36). Beatty had mentioned that this act of suicide was a common pattern. This made me realize how uncaring and disconnected the society was from one another. The ignorance that everyone had was caused by the lack of knowledge. This made me take a deeper look at the direction that the society was heading towards and that was when I felt really bad for being a part of it.

Importance of Literature:As Sara Toth once said, “Everyone deeply devoted to literature knows that it says something, and says something as a whole, not only in its individual works.” (Sara Toth) This reminds me of the old woman; literature was a very important and a big part of her life. I learned that after a long time; I learned the true meaning and value of literature. The actions of the old woman allowed me to put my thoughts into physical perspective and show me the real meaning of life. The incident with the old woman taught me what my life was missing; it allowed me to experience and connect Clarisse’s words to the actions of the old woman.
